Frequently Asked Questions About Birthday Parties
Things you need to know:
- CHECK IN: Host can check in 20 minutes prior to the party at the Welcome Center. A staff member will greet you and provide a cart to assist you with unloading. Please have your guest check in at the Welcome Center by providing your name of the birthday child's name. The invitation is not required.
- CHILDREN: Your party package covers admission for a maximum of 15 children (not including the birthday child.)
- ADULTS: Admission for 20 adult chaperones (ages 16 and older). One adult chaperone is required for every five children. The chaperones are responsible for the direct supervision of the children. Additional adults with or without children are free. Please keep the capacity to 30 total guests.
- PARKING: Please have your guest arrive earlier that the party start time to find parking. They may explore the Museum until your party starts.
- PARTY SPACE: Suggested capacity is 30 total guest. The party area will be set up with tables, table covers, and chairs 20 minutes before the party. There are no refrigerators available. * We do not have space to store items until the party area opens.
- ADDITIONAL TIME: Guest may enter before the party for additional time to explore the museum. The Discovery Center closes at 6 p.m.
What do I need to bring?
- Cake, candles & lighter, Cake Cutter
- Light Refreshments, Drinks, Cooler with ice
- Paper Goods (Plates, Cups, Utensils, Napkins, Etc.)
- Goodie Bags
- Table Top Decorations (please do not tack or tape to walls or hang from ceilings, large décor must be approved by birthday party coordinator)
- Large bags to carry the presents home easily
- Balloons (already inflated)

How many guests can a party area accommodate?
- The party area accommodates 30 people. The party room includes 15 children chairs and 12 adult chairs, as well as 4 five foot long rectangular tables which are covered with colorful disposable table covers.
How is the area arranged?
- We arrange two tables in the center of the room for children.
- The tables are set at a low height with 15 children chairs around them.
- The other 2 tables are set against the wall at regular height.
- The adult chairs wrap around the room against the wall.
Ice maker?
- We do not provide an ice maker. Please bring your own ice if needed.
- There is a sink and paper towel dispenser.
What is not allowed in the Museum?
- Piñatas, Silly Strings, Confetti, Alcoholic Beverages or Pets. Other items may not be permitted, please ask first.
May I bring additional entertainment?
- Yes, character appearances and balloon artists are fine. Please do not bring in music equipment.
May I bring in extra decorations?
- Yes, only tabletop decorations and balloons are permitted. We do not allow anything to be taped, tacked or hung on the walls. Any repairs caused by damages will be charged to you.
Refreshment Detail
May I bring in my own refreshments and food?
- You may bring in your own light refreshments, cake, ice cream, and drinks. Keep it simple – individual ice cream cups and individual juice boxes are easier to clean up.
Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center party favors
- You can purchase pencils, and T-shirts, at the Welcome Center to put in your goodie bags prior to your party.
What am I responsible for?
- Our staff is not permitted to serve food to your guests, nor clean up after refreshments are served. Trash containers are provided for you to use in the party room.
- Please plan on promptly vacating the party room at the end of your party.
- Please do not tip our staff. However, we welcome your comments about their great efforts to make your child’s day special!
